Rising from the ashes of his icarus-like first band the Unicorns, Islands was formed in 2005 by Nick Thorburn after he decamped from his native Canada to the wilds of Los Angeles. Debut LP Return to the Sea (2006) was met with significant critical and commercial success, and led to the band signing with ANTI- for a slew of well received albums: Arms Way (2008), Vapours (2009), and A Sleep & A Forgetting (2012). In 2013 Islands formed their own label Manque Music and released Ski Mask; in 2016 they released not one but two records on the same day, Taste and Should I Remain Here, At Sea?, the latter a spiritual sequel to their debut, which was remastered and reissued later that same year as a 2xLP, alongside 10th anniversary shows in LA and NYC.
